Welcome to our blog

Welcome to Room 16!
This term we are looking at the Rocky Shore, and the animals and plants that live there. Our big question is: Habitats-Paradise or Prison? Harry and his family spent the weekend at Kawau Island and gathered all these amazing things for us to have in our classroom. This week we will be start finding out all about some of these animals, what they are called, where exactly they live and what they eat.
Have you ever explored rock pools at the beach? Leave a comment telling me all about what you have seen there.

  1. When I was at Waiheke once, I saw a stingray at the beach. It was in the water gliding past.

  2. When I was doing nippers and we were going to walk to an island, it was low tide, we saw a dead stingray. The boys poked it with a stick.

We used to live in Snells Beach which quite close to Goat Island it is a great marine reserve.

  4. I went camping at Ruakaka in the holidays and my cousin Sarah caught a big octopus at the Marsden Wharf. I felt frightened because of it's long tenticles and it was walking on the wharf. I caught 5 fish, 3 snapper, 1 kahawai and one yellow tail and my sister Ella caught a yellow tail too. I really like fishing.

  7. When we were fishing at Kawau, we caught a red cod and when we threw it back in to the sea it floated back towards the boat and when I reached down to get it again, a bronze whaler shark came and gobbled it up. It gave me a little bit of a fright!
